“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

— James Baldwin

Hello, I’m Ruma

I'm a fully qualified Transactional Analyst and Psychotherapist to Master's level and accredited with UKCP, and a member of IARTA, Metanoia Institute, BAATN, EATA, ITAA, and registered with BACP.

I am a professional registered with ICO regarding holding your data and DBS fully checked and fully insured.

I've spent fifteen years working in mental health. Whilst undergoing personal psychotherapy, my experience was so transformative and empowering that in 2009, I started training in Transactional Analysis (TA) psychotherapy and set up my private practice in 2016. This type of psychotherapy bridges a humanistic philosophy with psychoanalytic thinking, which is accessible and clear with depth for you to understand how you are in life, how you are perceived and what you may find challenging in relationships.

I have worked in the NHS Talking Therapies service providing therapy to patients for 12 sessions, a charity providing support to clients for up to 60 sessions and also have experience of carrying out assessments for brief focused therapy on an Employee Assistance programme.

This has enabled me to support clients with a wide variety of issues with the ability to tailor and individualise treatment based on what your goals are.

Relationships Are Challenging

The relationship we form during our psychotherapy sessions is key to your healing - in articulating how you feel, understanding yourself, and what drives you as to how you communicate and relate to others.

As a South Asian, I am also interested in working with adults affected by feelings of cultural identity, belonging and/or displacement. I understand Asian languages, Hindi and Punjabi.

Psychotherapy can be essential to an individual in sifting through their cultural background in focusing on what is important to them, how they are affected and their impact on others.

I believe that our relationship is central, and working through patterns in a committed space and exploring the issues is what makes psychotherapy highly effective. The experience of being heard is so healing—to feel that you are not on your own and to be validated is so important.
